Regarding "Don't fall for smears against Girl Scouts" (Other Views, Feb. 1):
Robert McCartney says the Girl Scouts state "they have no stance on birth control or abortion." What he seems to fail to understand is that is exactly the problem. To have "no stance" really means "no objection."
I and many other parents and grandparents I know would prefer our young girls to be in an organization that does object. They want their daughters to be taught, at the very least, the value of the ideal of abstinence. They want their daughters taught to understand the preciousness of the life their bodies may someday create.
To have "no stance" on the destruction of millions of lives does not seem to be the kind of "character-building and leadership" I want for my children and grandchildren.
