A Dunedin man is in custody after allegedly hitting a Pasco County deputy with his vehicle and trying to hit another early today, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.
According to a report, Dana Charles Lauber, 24, was driving his Dodge Ram Charger across the grass area on the northeast corner of the intersection of Mile Stretch Drive and U.S. 19 in Holiday.
Lauber's vehicle struck a deputy who was trying to take the keys out of the vehicle, deputies said. The deputy was not seriously injured.
Then Lauber aimed his vehicle at another deputy, nearly hitting him, the report said.
The suspect was arrested at U.S. 19 and Darlington Road after he crashed his vehicle.
Lauber has been charged with attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer; aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer; felony fleeing to elude; resisting officer with violence; DUI; second-degree reckless driving; and two counts of DUI and damage property.
He was treated and released from a local hospital as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash, deputies said. He is being held on $36,000 bail at the Land O' Lakes jail, according to the jail website.
