Residents eagerly awaiting the opening of a central Pasco County Publix don't have much longer to wait. Company officials anticipate having the Sunlake store open in time for Christmas.
"This is going to be a beautiful, beautiful store," said Shannon Patten, manager of media and community relations for Publix.
The new 45,000-square-foot store in The Shoppes at Sunlake Centre, 18901 State Road 54, is expected to open in early December, Patten said.
An official opening date has not been determined. Hiring for the store just started.
"We are accepting applications at two nearby stores," Patten said. About 150 associates, full- and part-time, will be hired.
Potential associates can put in applications at Publix stores at Collier Commons, 2121 Collier Parkway, and at Lutz Lake Crossings, 19221 N. Dale Mabry Highway. Those stores also may have openings because of transfer requests, Patten said.
In addition, a new Publix will open at 8 a.m. Thursday in Zephyrhills at Summertree Plaza, 32765 Eiland Blvd.
The Publix stores will feature the supermarket chain's updated bakery department, a produce department and a pharmacy.
The Sunlake store will have Publix GreenWise items - a line of natural and organic products - integrated throughout the store. Patten said GreenWise products will be on special shelves.
"It's going to be our latest, greatest design," Patten said.
