Dade City Raises Fees To Rent Legion Hall

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The city will hang on to the American Legion building after all, but it won't renew a $10,000-a-year lease for a downtown parking lot.

City Manager William Poe had recommended turning the American Legion building back over to the veterans group, saying the city could not afford to maintain it anymore.

Monday night, Dade City commissioners voted to charge higher deposits and rental fees for the building.

Any nonprofit group that currently uses the building will be exempt from the new fees.

In other business, the commission adopted its $10.3 million budget and voted to maintain the city's millage rate of $7.10 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Residents who own homesteaded property will see lower tax bills this year because of the Amendment 1 property tax reform that voters passed in January.

City utility customers get a break this year, too. Commissioners voted unanimously to refund deposits for customers who have paid their bills on time for at least two years.
