The clouds that shrouded the Tampa Bay area this morning have slipped away, making way for sunny skies.
But with it comes the cold, and some areas north of the Bay area are bracing for freezing temperatures Saturday and Sunday mornings.
A forecast from the National Weather Service in Ruskin has the Bay area awakening Saturday to a shivery 35 degrees. The skies will remain mostly clear all day, but the mercury may rise only into the low 60s.
The same is expected Sunday morning. By midafternoon, temperatures might rise to the upper 60s, but as the Super Bowl gets under way, they could drop into the 50s.
In parts of Pasco, temperatures are expected to plunge into the upper 20s over the next two nights and county officials are urging people to protect cold-sensitive plants and take pets inside.
A few Pasco shelters will be open this weekend:
• Holy Ground Homeless Shelter, at 8835 Denton Ave. in Hudson, will serve hot meals and offer transportation. Call (727) 863-9123.
• Impact Family Church, at 6416 Delaware Ave. in New Port Richey, will open at 6 p.m. today.
• Hope Lutheran Church Community Chapel, at 12321 Canton Ave. in Hudson, will open at 4:30 p.m. today.
Foprecasters say a warming trend will start Monday with lows in the upper 40s and highs in the 70s.
