Herb Green expects about 350 people to converge at Trilby Manor Park on Saturday for an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration.
Green, who is president of the Greater Trilby Community Association, said the third annual event will begin about 10 a.m. at the park, between Power Line and Randalman roads, and will last until early afternoon.
"We've got a musical program in the morning, a group of kids called The Patri-ettes that will sing 'Yankee Doodle Dandy,'" Green said. "We'll have those little stick ponies for each performer. There'll be patriotic songs and other musicians, too."
Improvements at Trilby Manor Park include a barbecue grill, 10-by-30-foot shelter, baseball diamond, basketball court and playground.
Along with free hot dogs, there will be a sack race, relay races, egg-spoon races, ballgames, horseshoes, bobbing for apples, a tug of war and a watermelon seed spitting contest.
There also will be live gospel and country music performed by The Gathering Place, a local group.
No alcohol or fireworks are permitted at the park.
Funding has been provided by Publix, Sawmill Campground in Trilby and Jarrett Ford in Dade City. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is co-sponsoring the event, along with Lacoochee Elementary School.
"Each year, it gets bigger and better," Green said.
