Council Votes To Fix Fire Station

»  Comments | Post a Comment

City council voted unanimously Monday to repair the downtown fire station after staff trimmed the project's budget by more than $150,000.

"We've cut out some of the frills," City Manager Steve Spina said. "The firefighters' and paramedics' living quarters are unchanged."

The estimated price is now closer to $585,000, plus fees and contingencies.

"I think this is a great investment for the city," Councilwoman Jodi Wilkeson said.

Spina said the city should be ready to hire an architect by May, and construction could begin by summer.

The station has been out of service for more than a year because of flood damage. Firefighters have been working out of the World War II Barracks Museum at the municipal airport since the January 2008 storm.
