Robert Sanders McCray had a drug debt to pay off, Dade City police say he told them, so he came up with a plan.
On Thursday, he stole 19 packages of deodorant valued at $84 from a CVS, according to police.
It wasn't immediately clear how the deodorant might pay off his $40 debt.
According to his arrest affidavit:
Employees of the CVS, 12804 U.S. 301, saw McCray take the deodorant, followed him outside the store and told him he need to come back in and pay. Instead of doing as asked, according to the affidavit, he put down four packages of deodorant and tried to leave. His efforts, however, were thwarted by employees who held the 37-year-old until police arrived. McCray tried to fight a store employee, police said.
Police say they searched him and discovered he had a crack pipe and a small bag of crack cocaine on him.
McCray was being held at the Land O' Lakes Jail on charges of retail theft, resisting a merchant, possession of drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine.
Bail was set at $5,450.
