Pasco County deputies, as well as officers from the state Department of Corrections and the Dade City, New Port Richey and Zephyrhills police departments, made 68 domestic violence-related arrests Thursday during a special sweep.
The agencies took the lead of the Clackamas (Ore.) Sheriff's Office and participated in the seventh annual National Family Violence Apprehension Detail. It is a daylong event during which law enforcement officers attempt to serve outstanding family-violence warrants.
In Pasco, deputies and officers made 544 attempts to serve such warrants Thursday, according to sheriff's office spokesman Kevin Doll. They executed 85 warrants and made 68 arrests.
Last year, more than 5,700 attempts to serve warrants were made by 1,300 officers nationwide.
Authorities say they hope the sweep sends a message to domestic violence offenders that they will be held accountable for their crimes.
The national operation is held in conjunction with October being domestic violence awareness month.
