htState Rep. Kevin Ambler was injured this afternoon when his 2010 Mercedes sport utility vehicle crashed into a 1994 Toyota in Lutz, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Ambler's injuries are not serious, troopers said.
The wreck left the Toyota's driver, Janet-Lee Thomas Troupe, 71, with a broken right leg, a shattered right ankle and chest injuries, her son said.
"She is doing fair," Geoff Troupe said.
He said his mother's car T-boned the Mercedes and flipped as a result of the collision.
In a text message sent late Saturday night, Ambler's wife, Mindy Ambler, said her husband is "resting and in quite a bit of pain... We are very grateful that ...Kevin or Ms. Troupe's injuries were not more serious. Seatbelts definitely save lives."
Ambler, 49, was northbound on North Dale Mabry Highway and trying to turn left into the Cheval community when he crossed into the Toyota's path about 12:15 p.m., troopers said.
Ambler's wife took him to St. Joseph's Hospital North and Troupe was taken by ambulance to University Community Hospital.
Ambler, a four-term state representative, is seeking the Republican nomination for state Senate District 12.
