One Pasco County sheriff's inmate is in critical condition after a vehicle carrying six inmates overturned Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 41, officials said.
According to the sheriff's office, one inmate is in serious condition, one is in fair condition, one is in critical condition, and three others were treated and released from a local hospital.
All the inmates were alert but were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their names were not disclosed. No other injuries were reported.
Deputies said the wreck occurred at 1:49 p.m. about a half-mile south of State Road 52 in Land O' Lakes when the military-style transport vehicle overturned. The inmates, who are all trusties, were returning to jail following a county work detail, deputies said. The vehicle was driven by a Pasco detention deputy.
The Florida Highway Patrol will investigate the wreck.
