City Manager Billy Poe has "laid the groundwork" for an agreement with Pasco County that would allow city officials to temporarily relocate to the East Pasco Government Center while a new City Hall is under construction.
Although there's no formal agreement, Poe said he felt comfortable enough with the arrangement to tell architect Lisa Wannemacher that she could proceed with her design with the assumption that the existing City Hall building would be demolished.
The original plan called for a complex that could be built around the existing municipal building and annex. The project is expected to cost more than $4 million, but the city will apply for grants to pay for more than half of the cost. The complex would combine municipal offices, a new police station and new meeting space for commissioners.
Wannemacher expects to complete the design and submit the grant applications by October. Poe said city employees would not move in to the county building unless the grant money comes through.
"Right now, it all depends on the funding," he said. "We're not going to move out of the building unless we get the grant. I'd never be able to get the city employees to move back in."
