A man awaiting trial in the 2007 murder of Edward Neil Clark, has died in hospice care, Pasco County Sheriff's Office officials announced Friday.
Joseph Anthony Crawley, 44, of 10350 Lake Drive, was indicted on a first-degree murder charge in February 2007 and was set for trial Nov. 29. He was accused of killing Clark during an argument over whether he and another man stole his pressure washer, authorities have said.
Clark, 41, had been staying at Crawley's Lake Drive home for a few weeks before he was killed there.
Detectives say Crawley shot Clark in the head after several rounds had been fired. His body was found "in a kneeling, bent over position, lying in a large pool of blood."
Shortly after, Crawley told a neighbor he accidentally shot his house guest.
When deputies arrived, Crawley was nowhere to be found and they began searching for him. Four days later, detectives and U.S. Marshals tracked him down at the Suncoast Motel, 14920 U.S. 19, near New York Avenue, in Hudson, and arrested him without incident.
It was not immediately clear exactly how Crawley died on Thursday.
