A man jailed on charges stemming from the accidental shooting of his girlfriend's toddler will be held on $55,000 bail, a judge ruled Saturday.
Ralph Ronzino, 22, also was ordered not to possess any firearms or ammunition or have any contact with the child.
Investigators think Mckenzie Smith, 2, shot herself in the abdomen Friday morning after finding a semi-automatic handgun on a nightstand in her mother's bedroom.
Mckenzie, who underwent surgery at an area hospital, was listed in critical but stable condition Friday. Her condition was not available Saturday.
The child lives with her mother, Jessica Smith, 22, and Ronzino at 10018 Freestone Lane in Port Richey. Investigators said Jessica Smith was home when the incident happened; Ronzino was at a nearby Walmart.
Ronzino was arrested Friday on second-degree felony charges of child neglect by culpable negligence and possession with intent to distribute 202 grams of marijuana.
Two other handguns and an AK-47 were also confiscated. All were easily accessible to the child, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.
The public defender's office was appointed to represent Ronzino.
