A Dade City woman was arrested on animal cruelty charges Tuesday, four months after dead and malnourished dogs were found in her backyard, authorities said.
Angelic Jean Lee, 39, of 27611 Holiday Drive, faces eight counts of animal cruelty. She remained in the Land O' Lakes Jail today with bail set at $40,000.
An animal control officer found eight dogs in Lee's backyard in May, a report states. One, a puppy named Tatiana, was found dead under a pile of wood and leaves. The other deceased dog was an adult female named Goldie.
The six surviving dogs were emaciated and had been chained up or placed in small cages, the report states. The cages were in the sun and hadn't been cleaned.
The surviving animals were taken to Pasco County Animal Services, where a veterinarian determined they had hook worms and other health problems.
Lee told the officer she owned the dogs but couldn't provide enough food for them, the report states.
