Pasco County Historical Society to meet
The Pasco County Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the American Legion Hall, 37745 Church Ave.
Imani D. Asukile will share his research on the life of Odell Kingston Mickens, a Florida educator. Asukile is author of the "Black America Series: Hernando County, Florida." He writes a history column for The Pasco Tribune and is president of the African American Heritage Society of East Pasco County. The Brooksville native lives with his family in Dade City and is employed by Pasco-Hernando Community College.
There will be the usual covered-dish dinner before the program. Bring something to share, table service and a beverage.

Social gathering for the elderly planned
All area seniors are invited for an afternoon of cards and socializing at 1 p.m. Friday at Hugh Embry Branch Library, 14215 Fourth St.

Hospice offering free qigong classes
Gulfside Regional Hospice will offer free qigong classes for caregivers at 9 a.m. today at Westwinds Assisted Living Facility, 37411 Eiland Blvd.
Qigong is meditation practiced in China and involves slow, graceful movements with controlled breathing while listening to healing sounds.
Anyone can take part, regardless of physical condition, but space is limited.

The classes are held the second Thursday of each month and are open to the public. No previous involvement with Gulfside Regional Hospice is necessary.
