Some people at the FHSAA Girls State Weightlifting may have heard of Hudson High for the first time.
That's because two Cobras lifters grabbed medals Saturday at the Kissimmee Civic Center.
Baily Foster took fourth in the 199-pound class. She had a bench press of 155 pounds and a clean-and-jerk of 170 for a 325 total.
"I feel pretty good," Foster said. "I was expecting to do well. I had to make the power clean of 170 to get the medal. It was really good. I have to thank coach David Broughton."
Sneaking in under the radar was freshman Renee Ledoux. She took fifth in the 119-pound class with a 255-pound total. She had a bench press of 135 and a clean-and-jerk of 120.
"It's amazing,'' Ledoux said. "I worked so hard. I surprised myself. I completed my goal just by getting to state."
River Ridge's Alexis LiCalsi had a more dramatic moment. She lifted 195 pounds in her final clean-and-jerk to set a state record en route to a second-place finish in the 139-pound class.
LiCalsi also had a 165-pound bench press for a 360 total and second place.
Port Orange Spruce Creek won its eighth title in nine years with 30 team points. Navarre was second with 28.
It was the first state record by a River Ridge girl and the second-place tied for the best performance by a Royal Knight lifter. Natalie Marenghi took a second at 110.
River Ridge's Elicia Hinson and Mitchell's Meagan Giordano tied for eighth at 129. Hinson had a 140-pound bench and a 150-pound clean-and-jerk for a 290 total. Giordano had a 150 bench and a 140 clean-and-jerk.
Ridgewood's Victoria Schaefer was eighth at 119. She had a 125-pound bench and a 120-pound clean-and-jerk for a 245 total.
Ridgewood's Ashley Rodriguez had a ninth place at 110. She had a 120-pound bench and 115 clean-and-jerk for a 235 total.
River Ridge's Shannon McAmis finished 10th at 110 with a 100-pound bench press and a 125 clean-and-jerk for a 225 total.
Zephyrhills' Carly Patton took ninth at 154. She had a 315 total with a 155 bench and 160 clean-and-jerk.
River Ridge's Victoria Pearce was eighth at 154 pounds with a 320 total. She had a bench of 180 and a clean-and-jerk of 140.
Sunlake's Sherling Tejada and River Ridge's Katie Roush tied for seventh at 183. Both had 295 totals. Tejada had a 170 bench and 125 clean-and-jerk. Roush had a 135 bench and a 160 clean-and-jerk.
