Parents cold on 'hot' Katy Perry, Elmo video

Oh, Katy. Now we know why Elmo is smiling.

Producers of PBS iconic series "Sesame Street" have pulled a music segment featuring pop star Katy Perry and Elmo after parents complained that she was showing too much cleavage.

The video, featuring Perry singing a kid-friendly version of her song "Hot N Cold," was posted on YouTube this year and has since drawn a lot of negative comments from people who found her chartreuse prom dress too adult for kids.

The song was expected to be broadcast during the upcoming season but after thousands of negative comments posted producers decided to pull it.

The Sesame Workshop, which produces the series, issued the following statement today:

" 'Sesame Street' has a long history of working with celebrities across all genres, including athletes, actors, musicians and artists. 'Sesame Street' has always been written on two levels, for the child and adult. We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or care-giver.

"We also value our viewer's opinions and particularly those of parents. In light of the feedback we've received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on You Tube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of ''Sesame Street,' which is aimed at preschoolers. Katy Perry fans will still be able to view the video on You Tube.''

"Sesame Street" begins its 41 season on Monday.

Perry, who used to be contemporary Christian singer, had tweeted that she had fallen for Elmo. The lyrics are about playing games and the segment is cute.

My opinion: Is there anything online that doesn't get negative comments?

And, please note: Elmo isn't wearing anything at all.

Kids in Florida see more than this anytime they go to the beach, or the park or to the mall.

And now with all the publicity, more kids are going to look at it. The video has already had a million hits. And thanks to those complaining parents, the kids know what to look at when watching it.

And Disney better watch out. That outfit that Tinkerbell wears looks a bit tight.
