PLANT CITY - A man sitting in his parked car was fatally wounded today during a noontime robbery attempt, police said.
The identity of the man who died at South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City is being withheld by authorities because his relatives have not been notified, police said.
The victim was in a green compact car in the driveway at 1315 Alsobrook St. when shot, but authorities are uncertain whether he lived there.
Police Capt. John Borders said officers would work through the night to apprehend two suspects that witnesses saw run from the scene after the shooting. The suspects are described as men in their early 20s, both dressed in black, one carrying a fanny pack, police said.
Officers from the Lakeland Police Department and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office were assisting in the air and ground search. Tracking dogs from all three agencies were being used.
Borders said he didn't know how many times the man was shot or the caliber of the weapon.
