Harold Boswell, the last surviving charter member of the Plant City Civitan Club, died April 17. He was 88.

The club last year recognized Bowell for his dedication and participation in the civic organization.

Boswell held a number of leadership roles, from club president to chairman of the candy box project to lieutenant governor in club's district level. He also worked for years in the club's food booth at the Florida Strawberry Festival.

A native of Nebraska, Boswell came to Plant City in 1946 following a tour of duty during World War II with the Army Air Corps.

Boswell worked for Kilgore Seed and various auto dealerships, including Powell Buick Pontiac, where he was general manager from 1958 to 1981.

He was also a deacon for more than 40 years, a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school director at First Baptist Church of Plant City.

Civitan International was founded in 1917, and the Plant City chapter was chartered Nov. 16, 1954.
