Time is running out for David Sollenberger's tenure as city manager.
Mayor Rick Lott recently noted that the Jan. 25 commission meeting would be Sollenberger's last before his retirement.
Commissioners Mike Sparkman, Mary Yvette Thomas Mathis and Lott congratulated Sollenberger for his work with the city.
"You were the right man at the right time," Sparkman said.
Sollenberger was hired to be the interim city manager in 2002 and was hired full time by the city a few months later. He has remained in that position ever since. He formerly was city manager in Sarasota.
Plans are for the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce to host a retirement party for Sollenberger from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 25, prior to his last commission meeting.
Commissioners plan to promote Assistant City Manager Greg Horwedel to the top job after Sollenberger retires.
