The East Hillsborough Art Guild held its annual Christmas Showing of Fine Art on Dec. 10 at the Florida Strawberry Festival art show building.
The wine and cheese celebration, sponsored by TECO Energy, Publix and Lark Photo and Framing, featured the work of guild members.
Leo Watson, a past president of the guild, was pleased with the turnout of about 300 people. The guild offered thanks to the following artists who donated art for the evening's drawing: Joyce Bugaiski, Meghan Cuthbertson, Nancy Discoll, Richard Wagoner, Muriel Cook, Richard James, Mary Buzza, Watson, LouAnn Watson, Nelida D'Dorenzo, Mary Anne Freeman, Betty Fisher, Christine Kelley and Louise Andres.
The show also included a special display from the guild's 2009 scholarship winners summer art course.

Kiwanis Club, hospital play Santa
The Kiwanis Club and South Florida Baptist Hospital used the hospital's Wellness on Wheels van as Santa's sleigh to deliver 300 gifts for the needy in the community.
The event took place Dec. 8 at the Plant City Cornerstone Center, 315 N. Collins St. The club and hospital employees team up each year at Christmastime to help the less fortunate.
Volunteers needed as child advocates
The Guardian Ad Litem program in Hillsborough County needs volunteers. It matches volunteers with children that have been removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse.
The guardians report back to the courts advocating the needs and desires of the children. A training program is required.

Hypnotist offers weight loss class
Registration is open for a Jan. 7 class on weight loss through hypnosis led by certified hypnotist Darryl Schumacher.
The free class will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Bruton Memorial Library, 302 W. McLendon St.

4 graduate from USF Polytechnic
Four Plant City students graduated Dec. 14 from the University of South Florida Polytechnic, Lakeland, at its fall 2009 commencement at The Lakeland Center.
The students, and their degrees, included, John Zapata, master of education, educational leadership; Kristy Fisher, master of education, educational leadership; Sharlotte Bagley-Emuan, master of arts, adult education; and Tamara Fortner, bachelor of science, marketing.
Library plans computer classes
January will be a busy month at Bruton Memorial Library, 302 W. McLendon St.
Free computer classes that will be held from 11 a.m. to noon include computer basics, Jan. 13; mouse skills, Jan. 20; and keyboard basics, Jan. 27. A new class, Internet Introduction and Search Engines, will be offered from 7 to 8 p.m. Jan. 25. Seating is limited to the first 20 people to sign up.
For teenagers, there will be a Game Zone from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 13 and the Teen Anime Club will meet from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Jan. 26.
The Game Zone includes video games and snacks. Teen Anime Club is where teens watch an anime show or movie on a big screen and vote on which anime to watch at the next meeting. All teen events are free and open to students in grades 6-12.
