The Tony Jannus Society recently recognized Plant City High School senior Kathleen Hencke as the grand prize winner of its statewide essay contest.
She was honored at a luncheon at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club in St. Petersburg. She was accompanied by her parents, Edward and Lori Hencke, as well as Plant City High guidance and career counselor Sherrie Mueller.
Hencke was awarded three roundtrip tickets to any U.S. destination served by Southwest Airlines and a check for $600. Tom Henricks, former astronaut, made the presentation at the St. Petersburg Museum of History. Henricks is president/CEO of Aviation Week magazine.
John Kenney, a Plant City High senior, placed second in the contest and won a $50 gift card. Rachael Dwyer, a Plant City High freshman, placed third and also received a $50 gift card.
