The speed limit was recently lowered to 40 mph on a short stretch of State Road 39 (Paul Buchman Highway) due to a bridge replacement project.
The maximum speed was reduced from 60 mph as traffic shifted to a temporary bridge over the Hillsborough River near the Hillsborough-Pasco county line.
This temporary bridge north of Plant City will be used while the old one is demolished and a new one built in its place. The temporary bridge will be in use for approximately one year.
The project includes resurfacing about 2.7 miles of the highway in Pasco County between Bay Avenue and Gall Boulevard and installing a new emergency signal at Bay Avenue for a fire station, the Florida Department of Transportation said. The project will cost nearly $4.8 million.
