A retired wrestler and a Tampa based radio show host are lending some star power to a fundraiser for a local charity that helps the needy.
Stingray Chevrolet and Bubba the Love Sponge's nonprofit foundation have donated $15,000 each toward a new Chevy Camaro that will be given away in a drawing to benefit Unity in the Community of Plant City. Former wrestler and celebrity Hulk Hogan is helping promote the drawing.
"The car is a beauty," said Joyce Jordan, Unity in the Community founder and spokeswoman. "The car was autographed by Hulk Hogan, and painted his corporate colors. We are so pleased that Steve Hurley (owner and general manager at Stingray Chevrolet) and Bubba combined to make this fundraiser happen. These are tough times for a lot of people who will benefit from this effort."
The car is on display at the Plant City dealership, 2002 N. Frontage Road, off Park Road, until March 4, when it will be moved to the Florida Strawberry Festival grounds.
Tickets can be purchased with a $5 donation each.
You must be at least 18 years old to enter the drawing. Chances are limited to 10 tickets per person.
The winning entry will be drawn by Bubba the Love Sponge at 5 p.m. March 14, the final day of the festival. Bubba is heard on Cox Radio's classic rocker 102.5 The Bone (WHPT-FM) in Tampa, and is syndicated live on Cox Radio stations throughout Florida and in Dayton, Ohio with a total audience near 8 million.
"I'm told Bubba is asking his radio audience to take a chance on the car," Jordan said. "People are sending donations from all over the country. It's all very exciting."
The Hulk Hogan Edition Camaro comes equipped with 304 horsepower V6 engine, 21-inch wheels and a designer trim package.
"The winner will pick the car up at the dealership," Hurley said "All of the money raised will go to Unity in the Community. All of it."
