The wife of slain Tampa police officer Jeffrey Kocab delivered a stillborn baby this morning.
Sara Kocab and her husband had known throughout the pregnancy that the baby, Lilly Nicole, had a medical abnormality that meant Lilly probably would be either stillborn or live only a limited time after delivery, Tampa police said in a statement released today. The statement did not specify the issue but said it was not medically treatable.
"Sara Kocab and her family would like to thank the countless people who have shown their support and care during these past few weeks,'' the statement said.
Jeffrey Kocab and fellow officer Dave Curtis were fatally shot after an early morning traffic stop on June 29. Police have charged Dontae Morris in connection with their slayings. Kocab was formerly an officer in Plant City, where he was officer of the year in 2007.
