Berries may have been in short supply for a while, but that doesn't mean a staple of the Florida Strawberry Festival has gone up in price.
A dish of strawberry shortcake will set you back $3.50 - same as in 2009.
The festival association board members are mindful of the tough economic pinch many families are facing. It held the line on both shortcake and gate admission.
"The board did not want to raise any of the prices," festival General Manager Paul Davis said.
Thousands of shortcakes are sold at each festival. The Turkey Creek Assembly of God, Transforming Life Ministries, for example, hopes to sell 45,000 shortcakes at its booth during the festival's 11-day run.
This year's growing season and harvest was hampered by record cold in early January. Festival officials say there are plenty of berries now.
The festival runs through March 14.
