More than 70 people took part in the 13th annual Tri-Star Soccer Skills Contest sponsored by the Plant City Recreation and Parks Department and the Plant City Optimist Club.
Participants at the May 1 competition were divided into four age groups, with girls and boys competing separately. Three soccer skills were tested: dribbling against the clock around flags, passing at various size target spaces for points and shooting at a goal marked with different point zones.
Awards were handed out for the top three participants in each age group. The top overall score was 310 points, the mark attained by both the 10- and 11-year-old boys winner, Parker Suarez, and 12- to 14-year-old category winner Miguel Cruzes.
Here are the girls winners by age group, listed in order of finish from first through third place: 6- and 7-year-olds, Haylee Woodhouse, Isamara Flores and Riley Cooper; 8- and 9-year-olds, Taylor Doiron, Abby Shaw and Amber Trejo; and 10- and 11-year-olds, Morgan Langston, Mariana Hernandez and Celene Lopez.
Boys winners: 6- and 7-year-olds, Fernando Ruiz, Hye Howard and Garrett Brumbeloe; 8- and 9-year-olds, Kevin Betancourt, Michael Salgado and Elvis Castro; 10- and 11-year-olds, Parker Suarez, Luis Bustamonte and Erick Reyes; and 12- to 14-year-olds, Miguel Cruzes, Tobias Svensson and Omar Castro.
The free competition was open to area youths ages 6 through 14 and took place at the Otis M. Andrews Sports Complex.
