For the second year, Plant City resident Karen Gillman and the family business she helps run have been nominated for Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce awards.
Gillman, sales manager for Intelligent Office, an office services company in Tampa, has been nominated for the chamber's Outstanding Small Business Leader of the Year Award. Intelligent Office, 3111 Dr. W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., was nominated for the organization's Small Business of the Year Award.
They were nominated for the same awards last year but didn't win.
"Once again, we are overwhelmed and so grateful for the outpouring of support we've received regarding these nominations," said Gillman, whose primary responsibility at Intelligent Office focuses on sales and client services.
Intelligent Office provides virtual office services to 260 small businesses, such as receptionists, phone numbers, office space on demand, notary, translation services and more. The company's Web site is at ww.intelligentoffice.com
Gillman and her husband of 10 years, Mark, have lived in Plant City for six years. Mark's family has been in the Plant City area for 50 years.
Mark's father, Leo Gillman, owner of the Intelligent Office Tampa franchise, needed help at the office and asked Karen to start work there immediately after they moved to town.
The couple are active in Pleasant Grove Assembly of God, and Karen Gillman volunteers as an ambassador for Hillsborough Achievement and Resource Centers and also runs her own networking group, Charity Chics, with business colleague Lisa Ford, owner of Invent Your Image.
Gillman, 43, serves as a national spokeswoman for Johnson & Johnson in support of the company's gastric banding product, the Lap-Band. She has lost 145 pounds since she underwent the procedure more than five years ago..
