Prepare for a treat for your taste buds.
Some of the area's best cooks will fire up their grills Nov. 20 for the 8th annual Plant City Pig Jam.
There were 12,000 spectators at last year's event. Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce President Marion Smith hopes to double that number this year.
Everything is falling into place for another great Pig Jam, she said.
"We're just putting on the finishing touches," she said.
More than 60 teams of cooks will compete for more than $15,000 in prizes at the Pig Jam, which is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. The competition draws top cooks in divisions that include professional, amateur and children.
The event originated when Plant City residents Mark Poppell and Fred Williams competed at one of the biggest barbecue competitions in the country, the Big Pig Jig in Vienna, Ga.
The men returned to Plant City with a vision for a local barbecue festival, and the chamber of commerce threw in its support.
Spectators at the Pig Jam can buy samples of barbecue chicken, ribs, beef brisket and pork. There also is beer and soda sales, and family fun that includes entertainment and children's activities.
And for those college football fans, big screen TVs will air the major games.
