Plant City history center seeks volunteers

A nonprofit organization that preserves the area's history is hanging out the help wanted sign.

The positions at the Plant City Photo Archives & History Center require an interest in history - and the willingness to work without pay.

The center is seeking an assistant director, interns and other volunteers.

Executive Director Gil Gott said the archives and history center needs more help as its workload has increased. The organization, established as a photo archives, recently established a history center for preservation of books and other items of historic value.

The assistant director position requires someone with an interest in historic photographs and research and writing, in addition to organizational skills and the ability to lift and move boxes and exhibit equipment, Gott said. The assistant will work 20 hours a week, and will represent the center at public functions, he said.

Intern positions will run until mid-December and involve general work in the museum, exhibit gallery and research library, and require a commitment of at least 10 hours weekly.

Volunteer positions vary, according to specific needs of the organization and of the individual, and will include data collection, files and records, public reception, and miscellaneous duties. Volunteers are expected to work from four to 12 hours weekly.

Applications are available in the center at 106 S. Evers St.
