More than 40 women recently visited a local Sweetbay supermarket without carrying their shopping lists.
They were at the grocery at 205 W. Alexander St. as part of the Ladies Night Out health series sponsored by South Florida Hospital. The participants received tips on making the right shopping choices.
"It was all about healthy eating," hospital spokeswoman Beverly Littlejohn said.
The evening included a tour of the supermarket, and a cooking demonstration by Sweetbay chef James Sosbe, who prepared a meal for the participants.
Hospital registered dietitian Sara Markham presented tips on reading food labels.
South Florida Baptist has presented Ladies Night Out programs on heath care topics ranging from cosmetic surgery to weight management for about two years. This was the first time the hospital has presented a program away from its main campus in Plant City or its health center in FishHawk in the Lithia area, Littlejohn said.
The hospital is considering holding other events at different venues, Littlejohn said.
There is no charge for the Ladies Night Out programs.
