Kelly Savery is a bit of a cut-up.
She spends her days cutting and folding paper into tiny, whimsical and realistic-looking designs. Tiny farm vehicles, beautiful country houses, grand pianos and colorful flowers-on-a-stick are some of the sculptures she has created.
There was even a miniature dentist's office that was on exhibit at an annual convention for the American Dental Association.
Savery's work is on display and available for purchase through July at Bruton Memorial Library, 302 W. McLendon St.
This full-time paper and mixed-media sculptor moved to Florida from Connecticut about three and a half years ago.
"It's very different here," she said. "People say hello to you! Everywhere I go, the people are very friendly."
Shortly after arriving in Plant City, Savery's work began to be exhibited at Pam Moody's Creative Native Gallery in Tampa. The shop was unexpectedly closed for renovations earlier this year, and its future is uncertain.
"It was such a meaningful place, and we are holding our collective breath to see it come alive again," Savery said.
"It has opened up a whole new world for me. I'm disabled and unable to get my work out there as often as I'd like to, but Pam has worked tirelessly to provide encouragement and support for me and many other artists. She has challenged me and helped me grow professionally, and our community truly needs a place like this to continue," Savery said.
Savery's work may be seen during normal business hours at Bruton Memorial Library or click on "artists" at http://thecreativenativegallery.com.
