Scott signs port security clearance bill in Tampa

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Gov. Rick Scott today signed into law an employee security-clearance bill to eliminate the requirement for duplicative state and federal security standards that have added costs to employers at Florida's seaports.

Approval of the bill -- after more than five years of lobbying by port officials and seaport employers statewide -- will eliminate the need for Florida seaport employees to acquire both state and federal access cards.

Scott hailed the bill as supporting his initiative to make Florida seaports more competitive on the U.S. east coast, adding he was preparing a plan to enhance economic development initiatives related to seaport business.
