An Avon Park woman was thrown from her SUV and killed after the vehicle struck a wild hog, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
Mandi L. Montanez, 22, was westbound on Avon Park Cut Off Road in Frostproof about 9 p.m. Friday when a hog ran in front of her 2002 Ford Explorer.
The SUV hit and killed the hog, and Montanez lost control of her vehicle, which hit an incline, went airborne and began to roll, the sheriff's office said. Montanez, of 2570 N. Osceola Road, was ejected and the SUV uprooted two citrus trees.
Montanez was heading to work and was on the phone with her husband when the crash happened, deputies said. Her husband found the crash scene.
