Bicycle Club Interest Gauged

SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - Bicycle enthusiasts Alan Snel and Mike Limerick want to know whether Seminole Heights residents want a local bicycle club.

In the next weeks, they will be seeking feedback.

Snel organized two bicycle rides in Seminole Heights in September and October that each drew about 30 residents. The former Tampa Tribune reporter is coordinator for South West Florida Bicycle United Dealers, a group of retail bicycle stores.

The goal is to schedule rides in Seminole Heights or rides that start in the neighborhood. Events and festivals might be held, but the local club would not duplicate the events of other clubs such as the Tampa Bay Freewheelers.

Snel said there's an interest in bicycling, but the question is whether enough people would support a local club.
