The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute is joining with NFL Hall of Famer and community leader Lee Roy Selmon to promote healthy families and communities.
The initiative, which is supported by the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative, will present Knowledge Is Power from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the West Tampa Public Library, 2312 W. Union St.
The free event will include cancer awareness education, wellness tips and screenings for vision, blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes. Children can participate in reading and safety programs and face painting,
Selmon plans to attend from 11 a.m. to noon. Moffitt speakers and their topics include: B. Lee Green on health disparities; Christine Gage on cervical cancer; John Kiluk on breast cancer; LaShonda Coulbertson on freedom from smoking; and Brian Rivers on prostate health.
"BK" Jackson, a teenage saxophonist, will perform, and food will be provided. Participants who sign up for a library card will be eligible to enter a drawing for two Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets donated by Bucs player Will Allen.

Summer Sizzle Event Features Dancing, Show
SOUTH LaVelle Hall, 5320 S. MacDill Ave., will host the Summer Sizzle Dance and Double Show from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The event, coordinated by owner Roy Stone, will feature dancing to the music of the Mario DeLeon Band and a show by Stone and his students.
The finale will feature a performance by professional theater and cabaret dancers Jerry and Virginia Lenoir.

Cattle Barons' Ball Names Co-Chairmen
NORTH University of South Florida President Judy Genshaft and her husband, Steve Greenbaum, will be honorary co-chairmen of the American Cancer Society's Cattle Barons' Ball for 2009.
A mounted set of bull's horns was presented to Genshaft at a recent luncheon recognizing past honorary chairmen, including Rhea Law, Naida Ramil, Terri Ellison and Pam Muma. Event Chairwoman Jeanne Marget and ambassador Gloria Giunta also attended.
The horns will be kept in Genshaft's office during her and her husband's term.

Volunteer Training Set At Plant Museum
UT CAMPUS - The Henry B. Plant Museum will have an information and training session for volunteers from 10 a.m. to noon July 24 at the museum on the University of Tampa campus, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd.
Volunteers are needed for the positions of reception greeters and museum store assistants, and docents are needed to guide tours.
