TAMPA - Kim Feazell is bullish about Smoke Barbecue and Grill, which she and three partners opened a few weeks ago at 901 W. Platt St.
"It's hard to say we are just another barbecue joint," Feazell said. "We have a great, unique concept."
The restaurant offers kebabs, Texas brisket and a Hawaiian-style rotisserie chicken called Huli Huli, or "round and round." Another dish called Creole Love features shrimp, sausage, bacon, onions and pepper.
Feazell said Smoke's barbecue sauce is special because of an "out of this world seasoning" called "passion pepper."
Smoke also offers sides that are not the usual fare, including crispy lemon kugal, Italian grilled grit cake, orzo salad and multi-bean barbecue beans.
Prices range from $4 for a kebab to $18 for a full slab of ribs.
The restaurant seats 30 and plans an outdoor deck at the renovated building, formerly Hyde Park Detail and the Blvd. Sandwich Shop.
Feazell's partners are Tony Bruno, Rick Knapik and Gordon Davis.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday. For information, call (813) 254-7070.
Raydiance Tanning Re-Emerging In SoHo
Raydiance Tanning and Wellness Center is re-emerging in SoHo after an absence of nearly a year. The new location, 122 S. Howard Ave., is expected to open this month.
"It's not your typical tanning salon," operations director Marilyn Bray said. "It's larger than the previous location and has more spa services."
Spa features include a photo facial, or lumiere, which uses infrared rays to stimulate skin cells to reduce lines and wrinkles. The cost is $35 a session.
Premium tanning service is $28 a session.
Sessions are by appointment.
The previous location closed in July because of a property sale. Raydiance has two locations in Brandon.
The Tampa spa can be reached at (813) 251-8121.
