DOWNTOWN - Dignitaries, guests, board members and employees gathered with more than 200 Walbridge construction workers recently to celebrate the topping out of the Tampa Bay History Center's new home - the last construction milestone before the December grand opening.

County commissioners Rose Ferlita and Al Higginbotham, Mayor Pam Iorio and Judge E.J. Salcines were among the attendees.

The museum is being built along Channelside Drive. The topping out was marked by the lifting of a giant steel beam, signed by more than 500 area residents, to its spot atop the museum.

Salcines, a center trustee-elect, spoke of the historical and cultural importance of the Spanish exploration of the region.
