A 15-year-old Plant High School student injured in a wreck Monday has been upgraded to serious but stable condition, according to the Tampa Police Department.
Ashley Simington was taken to Tampa General Hospital with head injuries after the crash at South Clark Avenue and West Vasconia Street, a Tampa police report states.
Simington was a passenger in a Toyota 4Runner driven by Jason Ryan Pyros, 16, of Tampa. Pyros and three other passengers, ages 15 to 18, were not seriously injured.
Pyros was driving west on Vasconia when he ran a stop sign and was struck on the driver's side by a Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Phyllis Cook, 71, the report states. Cook was driving north on Clark at a lawful speed, the report states.
The Toyota struck a curb and flipped, the report states.
Pyros was cited for violating the right of way, according to the report. It wasn't clear whether Cook was injured.
Simington and Pyros completed 10th grade at Plant High on June 4, said Linda Cobbe, spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County school system.
