Light Up the Night at cigar street party

A cigar street party, Light Up the Night, will benefit the Tampa Firefighters Museum and the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation.

The event will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Nov. 20 at the firefighters museum, 720 E. Zack St.

Jack Harris is the emcee for the evening, and cigar celebrities include Carlito Fuente Jr. from Tabacalera A. Fuente & Co., as well as Bobby and Eric Newman of J.C. Newman Cigars. The evening will include food, rum, beer, wine, cigars, entertainment by the Mainstream band, a silent auction of rare cigar items, a cigar-rolling contest and a charitable casino.

VIP tickets are $85; regular admission is $50 in advance. Tickets are $20 additional, each, at the door.

Fishing tourney sets record

INTERBAY - The recent Bash on the Blue party and Gary Nix Fishing Tournament set a record with more than $80,000 raised at the Oct. 22-23 event.

The tournament is held in memory of Nix, a Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay member who died at age 16. His grandmother, Paddy Moses of the Boys & Girls Clubs, started the event, which has raised money for an endowed scholarship at Hillsborough Community College, club programs and a planned gym at the Liberty Boys & Girls Club. Ruben Calles and Andrea Nole were co-chairmen of events.

Copeland More of South Tampa was the Grand Slam winner with a snook of 231/2 inches, redfish of 31 inches and a trout of 171/2 inches for a total of 72 inches.

Jim Previtera of South Tampa won the longest snook category with a 27-inch fish; Manny Novo of Carrollwood won the longest redfish with a 28-inch catch; and Demond McKinley of North Tampa won the longest trout with a 20-inch fish.

A.J. Tagg of South Tampa won the Junior Angler division.

On Oct. 12, a children's fishing tournament was held; winners were Matt Arnold and Jalen Aslea of the Interbay Club, and Jared Watkins and Daphanie Lozado of the Liberty Club.

Relay for Life kickoff Nov. 18

SOUTH TAMPA - The Relay for Life South Tampa Kickoff is set for Nov. 18 at the Home Theater Gallery, 3300 S. Dale Mabry Highway.

Networking is at 6:30 p.m., with a program at 7 p.m.

The event is April 23 in South Tampa. Those who attend the American Cancer Society's overnight community celebration camp out, barbecue, dance and take turns walking around the track, relay-style, to raise money to fight cancer.

Association considers change

SOUTH TAMPA - The Northeast MacFarlane Association and Crime Watch will consider a name change at its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Barksdale Senior Center, 1801 N. Lincoln Ave.

The group will vote on changing the association to Macfarlane Park and make plans for holiday parties. Refreshments will be served.

Thrift sale set for Saturday

BAYSHORE - The Tampa Woman's Club Evening Group will have a thrift sale to benefit the club's maintenance fund.

The sale, open to the public, will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 2901 Bayshore Blvd. Breakfast and baked goods will be sold.

Groups plan seasonal events

TAMPA - The fall season is tapering off, but there are a number of groups with planned events. They include:

•The Gulf Ridge Council, Boys Scouts of America, will honor the Rev. Abraham R. Brown and Jose Valiente at its sixth annual Whitney M. Young Luncheon. The organization recognizes outstanding service by an adult or organization in the development of Scouting for culturally and economically diverse young people.

The luncheon is at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Carrabba's Italian Grill Restaurant, 700 N. Dale Mabry Highway. Proceeds will benefit more than 1,500 at-risk youths in West Central Florida.

Frederick H.L. McClure, a litigator with a concentration in conflict resolution, is the speaker.

• The Sustany Foundation's second Sustainable Buzz, an Organic Wine Tasting.

It is hosted by Gianpiero Ruggeri, with wine representatives pouring pesticide-free, biodynamic wines paired with an assortment of imported meats and cheeses.

It will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gianpiero's Pick of the Vine, 2506 S. MacDill Ave., Suite B.

The Sustany Foundation was established in 2007 to promote a culture of sustainability on a local level. The foundation encourages environmental and social responsibility. Tickets are $35; information is available at www.sustany.org.

• Krewe of Alegria's sixth annual Bike Night Fundraiser.

The event is 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Gaspar's Grotto, 1805 E. Seventh Ave. Proceeds benefit Kickin' for Kids, a nonprofit organization that provide shoes for children in the Tampa Bay area. Tickets are $10. For information, go to www.kreweof alegria.com.

•The first Tampa Corporate Dodgeball Tournament, sponsored by the Gulf Ridge Council of Boy Scouts of America.

The tournament is Saturday at the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex and is open to all businesses, civic groups, service clubs or groups of individuals. Teams consist of six players and up to four substitutes.

Registration is at 10 a.m., and the first round is at 11 a.m. at the complex, 6610 E. Whiteway Drive. The winning team will receive a $1,000 cash prize, and a traveling trophy will go to the top three teams.

Girl Scouts offer workshops

SOUTH TAMPA - The Girl Scouts of West Central Florida will lead three sessions about issues facing today's youth.

The sessions will be held at 5002 W. Lemon St. They are:

•Digital Danger, exploring issues such as sexting, cyberbullying and social networking sites, as well as offering ways to protect children from online predators and other dangers of the digital age. It will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. .

•Bullying, helping parents learn how to prevent situations where bullying can occur, as well as how to handle incidents of bullying. It will be 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 2.

•A Hard Pill To Swallow will help parents recognize prescription drug abuse in teens, how to help and what resources are available. It will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 19.

The training sessions are $5 for Girl Scout members, $17 for others. To register, go to www.gswcf.org.

Conference seeks to help families

YBOR CITY - The Latino Coalition will have a free conference, Community Support for Families in Crisis, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Children's Board of Hillsborough County, 1002 E. Palm Ave.

The goals are to identify problems, make the community aware of the issues and find ways to network and partner.
