SOUTH TAMPA The Plant High School Danceros dance squad recently returned from the Universal Dance Association Dance Camp with an armful of awards.
The Danceros received first place for their home routine, the Leadership and "Full-Out" Awards, and a Superior award for having every member of their squad receive blue ribbons during evaluation. In addition, all four senior members were designated as All-Americans.
With little time to rest before the start of school and their own performance season, 11 members of the squad found time to give back to the community. Led by captains Madeline Harcrow and Jillian Shimberg, the Danceros held a clinic for members of the Bay Area Raiders cheerleaders. The girls spoke about the importance of hard work, dedication and teamwork, and then taught the Raider girls a dance routine.
The Bay Area Raiders participate in the Tampa Bay Youth Football League. The Raiders have tackle football and cheerleading squads for boys and girls ages 4 to 14, and practice at the Interbay Boys & Girls Club every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday during the season.
