Teachers trained in technology

A team of English teachers from Academy of the Holy Names recently attended SummerCORE (conference on reforming education), a five-day computer workshop designed to educate teachers on integrating technology into the classroom through the use of blogs, wikis, podcasts, bookmarks and digital storytelling. They learned to use VoiceThread in classroom projects, transforming media into collaborative spaces for video, voice, and text, and took journeys using Google Earth, a virtual globe of maps and satellite images.

Penny Jennings, Academy of the Holy Names high school principal, said, "Today each teacher has a role and responsibility in the technological evolution/revolution. The workshop provided insights into big-picture issues like gender equity, plagiarism, honesty and digital citizenship."

Jennings established an agreement with the SummerCORE creators to bring the workshop to the Tampa Bay Area. Other attendees included faculty and administrators from Berkeley Preparatory, Tampa Preparatory, Shorecrest, St. John's Episcopal and St. Mary's Episcopal schools.
