The origin of the word dominate is Latin, which students from St. John's Episcopal Parish Day School know all too well.
On Feb. 6, more than 70 students from the school competed in the District VII Regional Latin Forum, and for the sixth consecutive year, they placed first overall in the middle school division.
The students were joined by teachers D.J. Holt and Lori Decamp, and chaperones for the event at Robinson High School.
Students from middle and high schools from across the Tampa Bay area competed in academic tests, creative contests and Olympic-style sports events.
This year, the St. John's delegation won top honors in tests, such as Customs, Mythology, Vocabulary and History of the Monarchy and Republic, and also won every creative contest, including Charts, Drawings, Games, Illustrated Booklets, Maps, Models, Paintings, Pottery and Textile Arts.
St. John's swept every overall category: Academic, Creative and Olympika.
