At 89, Adele Neill has seen a lot. Still, nothing gets the Kings Point resident's brain and body moving like line dancing to country western music at the Borini Theater.
"The thing I like about it, at my age, is it's good exercise," said Neill, a retired nurse. She decked herself out in her best country finery, including a hat and boots, for the event.
Jan Ulics, the instructor for the Kings Point Line Dancers, said the dance drew more than 80 people on Jan. 11.
Ulics is planning a special tribute dance Feb. 9 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Borini Theater, and wants people to dress in their Sunday best. The dance is open to SCC and KP residents and their guests.
"Line dancing makes you use all the muscles from the brains to the toes," Ulics said. "With line dancing you dance by yourself. It's different when you dance by yourself compared to dancing with a partner. You have no one to guide you."
Line dancing is perfect for couples and singles. But there are more women than men who attend the monthly dances.
"We need more guys," Ulics said.
Jack and Jackie Heckle take line dancing lessons in the Kings Point Clubhouse studio Mondays at 3 p.m.
"It's low-impact exercise," Jackie said. "It's social. You meet great people."
