Gulfstream International Airlines will increase nonstop weekday daily flights between Tampa International Airport and Tallahassee from four to six effective Monday, one more flight than Continental Airlines Connection carrier previously announced.
Gulfstream also will increase non-stop round trips on Sunday from two to three.
Despite the loss of competition on the route, Gulfstream is offering lower fares than both Delta Air Lines and Gulfstream offered in April, when Delta inaugurated flights between the two cities with the help of government subsidies.
A round-trip flight between Tampa and Tallahassee on Dec. 14 and 17 was listed last Friday at $319.20, including taxes, compared with round-trip fares on both Delta and Gulfstream on April 14 and 17 of $351.
Delta Air Lines discontinued flights between Tampa and Tallahassee on Oct. 1, citing low demand
The state, Leon County and city of Tallahassee earlier this year backed a total of $1.5 million in revenue guarantees for Delta to compete with Fort Lauderdale-based Gulfstream by adding flights between Tallahassee and Tampa, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.
"While our competition has gone, returned and gone again, we have remained committed to providing reliable, quality, intra-Florida air service at reasonable prices," said David Hackett, Gulfstream president and CEO.
