Thomas Lafoe will be held in a Pinellas County jail with no bail after being charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jeffrey Charles Norton, a popular local actor.
Lafoe made his initial court appearance Thursday and the judge issued him a public defender.
Lafoe is accused of murdering the actor with a heavy metal silver sword - similar to a Samurai sword.
Norton, 55, was found dead Sunday at his home, 4201 Third St. N. Along with being an actor, Norton had worked as theater manager at Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg since 2002.
Lafoe, a neighbor and Norton's lawn maintenance man, became a suspect in the slaying when detectives discovered he was using Norton's credit cards.
Lafoe used one of Norton's credit cards Saturday to buy two pairs of shoes worth $150 at a Foot Locker on Central Avenue.
