Pasco County has been home to nudist resorts for 70 years, but 2012 will be the first year commissioners spend public dollars to promote the county as a nudist destination.
Commissioners voted 4-1 Tuesday to approve a $3,818 tourism development grant to PANDAbare, the Pasco Area Naturist Development Association, to promote a "Eurobird" season during the slow, summer months of July and August.
Pasco has about a dozen nudist communities, including Lake Como, Caliente and Paradise Lakes, all of which are in Land O' Lakes and double as year-round resorts.
PANDAbare, a nonprofit association, sought funding in 2008 from the county's Tourist Development Council, but were denied.
The nonprofit will launch a marketing campaign targeting nudists from Germany and England to use Pasco County as their home base while they venture out to visit museums, beaches, amusement parks and the Space Coast.
The ads will be published in international magazines, such as "Internaturally," that cater to the naturist lifestyle.
