The National Weather service has issued a freeze warning tonight for Hillsborough and three other counties.
Cold air moving in behind a secondary cold front will drop overnight temperatures into the low to mid 30s across the Tampa Bay area. With the wind chill, temperatures will feel like the upper teens in northern areas, 30s along the coast and 20s inland, said Megan Hatton, News Channel 8 meteorologist.
Along with Hillsborough County, a freeze warning is issued for Hernando, Pasco and Polk counties. Citrus County is under a freeze watch.
The National Weather Service issued a wind chill advisory for Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk, Hernando, Manatee, Sarasota, Citrus, De Soto, Hardee, Highlands, Lee, Levy, and Sumter counties.
"Make arrangements to cover sensitive plants, protect pets and dress in layers," Hatton said.
Clouds are moving in from the Gulf of Mexico along with winds gusting 25 mph and higher.
"Mariners, today is your day to stay off the water," Hatton said.
The cold front will follow the clouds and temperatures will start dropping soon after.
Temperatures Sunday night will be in the mid 30s again in the Tampa Bay area.
Cold weather shelters will open for the homeless 6 p.m. Sunday and accept guests all night. Guests will receive a hot evening meal and breakfast the next morning. Those with questions about the shelters can call Cliff Smith (727) 698-1809 or (727) 464-8448.
By Monday temperatures will be back in the mid 60s. The temperatures should continue to climb throughout the week with highs in the mid to upper 70s for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
