A strong line of storms is heading toward Florida's west coast overnight.
Residents of the Nature Coast or in Citrus/Hernando counties should keep an eye on the radar because the storms may work into the area as soon as 2-3 a.m., bringing the possibility of a few severe storms, News Channel 8 meteorologist Brooks Garner said.
A few damaging wind gusts are the main threat, but a brief/isolated tornado can't be ruled out, Garner added.
The line of rain will work south and east through the morning bringing rain/storms into Tampa/St. Pete just in time for the morning commute, he said. The rain will track farther south and east into Sarasota and Lakeland through the mid- to late morning.
By afternoon, the rain will clear, but a few clouds may stick around, and Garner predicts clear skies for Saturday's Gasparilla festivities.
